My Favorite sport…ever!

My favorite sport ever is hockey! I go to every game I can! I have two favorite teams… One  , of course, is an NHL team, The Thrashers!…The other is a SPHL Team…The Cottonmouths. Most people who are familiar with hockey know that the NHL stands for National Hockey League. The SPHL is the Southern Professional Hockey League…basically a minor league in the south eastern United States. So, my favorite team in the whole SPHL is the COTTONMOUTHS( those are snakes). In the above photo, I am standing beside the Mascot ( during a different game, but same place, same team)… The mascot is funny looking, yes…but very good at motivating and entertaining an audience.

Anyway,lastnight was the  first game of 2009. It was the most exciting game I have ever seen in real life. Tonight my team, the cottonmouths, played the Fayetteville Fire Ants…Twenty  seconds into the game. there was a fight. One of the cottonmouths, Leslie,beat the mess out of one of the fire ants.Shortly after that, the fire ants scored…literally a few minutes ( maybe 5)! Then they scored again..the cottonmouths were battling them hard, kept getting shots on goal, and weren’t scoring…then the  first period ended, with a score of 2 ants, 0 snakes!We took our intermission…you could here the rap song “superman” playing, and then the “chicken dance” everyone skated to at a roller skating rink, at one point in there life or another. They played games, and the mascot clowned..soon the horn blasted…5 minutes until the second round and the Zamboni  was parading a tot from one end of the rink to the other. Then !

The second period began, and a few minutes passed. Suddenly it was like  a whole new team of players had inhabited the snakes. They were playing offensively instead of defensivly…they got one goal, and another goal…and then there was a power struggle. Someone got checked hard…there was a boom that echoed through the whole arena. Then an ant got laid out on the ice. His helmet went flying and a his stick went up in the air…he laid there in shock for a second, got up, and with a  rowdy audience booing him…he escorted himself off the ice. We  ( the snakes)were 2..they were 3…it started nearing the end of the second period and the ants were starting to get more rough…the puck was flying back and forth, back and forth…over and over again! People were screaming, the shots on goal were very close to tied…and then the count down to the end of round 2 happened. 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1…we took our second intermission…and came back…were were wound up…and we pushed the puck back into there side of the rink, and scored again! Finally Tied!

Then both teams bucked up. Someone had to be a winner…the puck flew back and forth back and forth, with goals almost scored constantly…none to speak of at this time though. The third period grew close to an end and the puck was flying faster…still no score…10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,….EEEEHHH! The horn blasted..it was a tie!

Time for sudden death (also known as over time)!First there were 3 players from each team…again the puck flew everywhere…but no one was scoring..the ants, had a team member go into the penalty box, and the moment came for a GEORGIA POWER…POWER PLAY! They brought more players on to the ice…Npth teams pushed that puck everywhere…the ants were dominating the ice despite there lack in numbers…no score though…then I thought, someone would surely score….nope..still a tie!  Sudden death ended… with a tie!

Time for a third and final effort for a tie breaker called a shoot out!

Each player took turns one at a time; ants, then snakes, ants then snakes all the way through the roster…at first the ants had one shot on goal…and we had none……then a player on the ants missed, and  we stepped up and got a goal..then we missed one,and the ants missed one…but we shot a goal… it came down two a goal of two successful shots for both the ants and us snakes ! Finally, it came down to a final ultimate tie breaker..our last player had to make the goal…Mesita…I stood up and screamed and screamed…Go Mesita!  GOOO MESITA! Boy did he! His goal won the game! It was a mad celebration! I tried to go congratulate the team, but I swear to you…more then 500 people were waiting in line for autographs! It was awesome. I left elated…most definitely on cloud nine! Best Hockey game ever…that’s all I can say!
