Droplets By: Laura Tidwell

Droplets fall so heavily
Like his sadness blankets the world.
Everything catches a tear or two
And connects him to all life.
He has made it so
We need his tears.

They grow us,
Heal us,
Refresh us.
Wake us from a life of monotony,
Or put us to sleep
When the challenge is too great.

His tears consume my thoughts
As I am provoked to question;
Why is my Father crying?
Is it the state of the world?
Or one person?
His anger is brooding.

It rumbles through the sky,
Through my heart,
And through my mind.
I am quiet now,
Listening to him
As he speaks to me.

It is comfort for me
To hear the droplets falling
So heavy on my home.
It always seems to me,
That my Father cries hardest
For the state I am in.

Could it be my condition
Or just the place?
We are all hard on him,
but hard on ourselves,as well?
Is that why?
Is that why he is crying?

All I know is we need him.
To show us this emotion
That we thirst for.
The knowledge of his plan is hidden
Only to be revealed in
Due time.

His tears will fall again,
And I will repeat these questions
In my mind, that he molded for me.
All the while knowing that one day,
I will see these droplets
Literally falling from my Father’s eyes.

This is  a photo of me with my hero. This is my dad Tidwell. He is my step dad, but he is my dad. For Christmas I wrote him a poem about how grateful I am for the things he has given me in life. Including my second chance to have a life.  This is the poem.

The Very Best Gift Of All!

By: Laura Tidwell

Huddle ’round while I tell you a tale
Of a brown haired girl with skin so pale.
Her young life was looking very sad
Until an angel brought her another dad.

He gave her gifts you can’t buy in a mall.
The very best one, best of all,
Was a second chance to really live
and to be taught the joy of getting to give.

He took her to a hospital far from her home
With her momma to hold her, so she wasn’t alone.
The doctor, he told her ” We will take good care”.
Her momma said,” don’t worry, I am here”.

After the surgery was completely done,
Her other father came and brought her home.
At nine years old, she thought about life’s joys.
A new chance at life was much better than toys!

She went back to school and told her friend,
About her surgery and how it all happened.
No more tumor was in her brain,
No more seizures causing embarrassment and shame.

Today she’s an adult who loves to volunteer,
Not for the glory, but because its sincere.
She wants to help in anyway she can,
Help save lives of other children.

So she tries, but can never be
The type of hero like only he.
He who takes on someone else’s girl.
Gives her an oyster with the prettiest pearl.

Lets her dream as big as the sky.
Gives her things she wouldn’t ask him to buy.
Lets her know anything can be …
And yes, I must tell you, that she is me!

New Year’s Eve, how it went down!

So New Year’s Eve day was wonderful. I spent the whole day hanging out with my brother’s girlfriend, Sivouthy. We went shopping and got manicures and pedicures. She is probably one of the most awesome people I have ever met, and I wouldn’t expect anything less from my brother’s choice in a partner.

Everyone who celebrated with me that night is very dear to me, and everyone except my boyfriend, Charlie, is in this photo. Our main activity for the night was bowling. My brother Greg and his Girlfriend( Sivouthy) as well as  Charlie and I, all went to eat Mexican before we went bowling. I ate pork chops , coconut rice, and green beans, with a pina colada.

Then we got to the bowling alley and let loose. We met up with the rest of the group and danced! Then we  bowled and partied like it was going out of style. There were about ten of us. The alley was dark and the lights were flashing and neon. We had noise makers, crowns and hats. Charlie got lost in, no entranced by “My humps” the video by Fergie, as the clock started to sound for the countdown. I got his attention, though…just in time for a big sweet New Year’s kiss. We stayed at the alley until almost two, two was the cut off time, but we were exhausted!

All in all it was a great way to ring in the new year….to see photos from this night, go to my Facebook page.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!… Let’s talk about resolutions.

PhotobucketHAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!I am resolving to maintain a blog for 1 year that helps to establish and promote…me! Before I can make this habitual, I have to start…so let’s start with a bio. My name is Laura  Tidwell. I was born to John Richard Trevett III, and Miriam Eve Trevett in Naples Florida, on November 20th, 1981.  At the age 7, my mother met my future step dad( my hero) and got remarried to him. His name is Dr. Tidwell. I took his last name when I was 11 or 12 years old. I have two biological sisters, and a step sister and two step brothers. We are all family, though. Of the six children ( adult children), I am the third oldest.I legally have both fathers’ last names.  I am 27 years old, and I live in the southern United States.

Due to a life threatening illness ( a brain tumor) I started to journal at the age six. My doctor suggested I journal my seizures (I had 60-90 a day without medicine, and approximately 30 with medicine). After my third drowning experience, I had a risky brain surgery. I was 9 years old, soon to turn 10. On September sixth, of  2007, I celebrated my second Sweet 16.It was sixteen years since I had my brain surgery. As you probably understand, my brain surgery was a life changing experience, because I have not had another seizure since. In honor of my survival, I have made that day my re-birth birthday.  Doctors predicted I would be paralyzed, deaf , mute, blind, or dead after the operation. I am none of the above. Though there are lingering affects, they are mild in comparison to those predictions.

Not only am I not brain damaged, but I am a senior at Columbus State University, with a  technical certificate in medical coding from Columbus Technical college. I am still working on my official certification, but completed the program making  me eligible for employment in the field.

I have recently begun my third try at modeling, and have had a few small successes in the last week. I have been having photos made professionally  for a year. A week ago, I started posting them on Modelmayhem.com. I have already started getting offers to do photo shoots, and I am pretty proud of that.

I have traveled abroad quite extensively, and plan to continue to travel all through my life time. I have been to Canada, Mexico, Jamaica,  Bahamas, Chile, Puerto Rico, England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, and Japan, and of course around the mainland and Hawaii.

I have changed my mind 100 times at least about my career path. My goal is to make a difference in this world. I want to inspire, change and give back.

Currently I have an exciting idea for a series of  autobiographical books, and I am hoping this blog will encourage me to follow through with it. SO!  Bloggers worldwide, I want to make this resolution loud and clear, I resolve to blog on this site for 1 year! I hope you enjoy!
